Memory Monday

Ok… so I know it isn’t Monday, but I want to be able to POST on Monday, so today I’m selecting the passage to hide in my heart.

Confused yet? Let me clear that up for you. Joanne over at The Simple Wife has begun a fun way to help us get motivated to memorize the Word. Head on over to her blog and check it out!

Even if you don’t have a blog of your own, I challenge you to go ahead and jump on in! If you think you’re up to it… go ahead and select some verses. Work on them through the week, then post your verses (from memory, of course) in the comments to next Monday’s post.

Psalm 119:9-16

 9 How can a young man cleanse his way?
         By taking heed according to Your word.
 10 With my whole heart I have sought You;
         Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
         That I might not sin against You.
 12 Blessed are You, O LORD!
         Teach me Your statutes.
 13 With my lips I have declared
         All the judgments of Your mouth.
 14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
         As much as in all riches.
 15 I will meditate on Your precepts,
         And contemplate Your ways.
 16 I will delight myself in Your statutes;
         I will not forget Your word.

Won’t you join me in this? Go ahead and start with a passage that’s familiar to you already. See how God will bless through it! I bet we’ll find that the passage we choose… He’s going to use it to encourage and help us through the week. He’s faithful like that!

While we’re on the topic of memorizing, I’ll share with you something new we’ve started with Noah. He’s been struggling with his handwriting, and so we’ve decided to have him sit down and practice every afternoon. My initial thought was to use his memory verse from church, but then a girlfriend of mine (Lisa – she’s a doll!) shared that she has a slightly different method she uses. She helps her son with handwriting by putting a bunch of different verses on brightly colored paper. She folds them up and puts them in a jar, and he gets to pick one out at the beginning of each week. Throughout the week, he uses that verse to practice his penmanship. He loves the fact that he gets to pick the verse out of the jar, and Lisa says it never fails… God always places the perfect verse in his hand each week and it meshes perfectly with the particular challenges he is facing at that particular time. Again… our God is faithful like that, isn’t He?  I love this idea of Lisa’s, because he was memorizing the Sunday School and Pioneer Club verses each week already… so now he’ll be adding more scripture to his memorybank… and his arsenal (Eph. 6).

So what are you waiting for? Now’s the time… pick a passage! I think I’ll start with Psalm 119… from the beginning! For this week I will memorize verses 1-3:

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.”

Ready? Set? You can do this!! Let’s do it together!

  1. So glad you’re joining in!

    And love your friend’s idea for penmanship practice. I may just have to do that for my Emma who needs to work on her neatness–according to her teacher and her mama!

  2. […] other day I issued a challenge. It’s been very quiet around here, so I’m not sure if any of you decided to join me or […]
